Bike won't start? Check these first

Simple checks you can do yourself before calling a mistri, and when to stop and get help.

3 min readUpdated 04-Nov-2026

Quick checks

  • Is there petrol? Shake the bike and listen, or open the tank.
  • Fuel tap on ON, or switch to RESERVE.
  • Kill switch (red switch) on RUN.
  • Spark plug cap pushed on firmly.
  • For self-start: is the battery weak? Try the kick.

Flooded engine

If you smell petrol after many kicks, the engine may be flooded. Turn the fuel tap off, wait a few minutes, then kick with the throttle slightly open.

When to call a mistri

If there is no spark, a burning smell, smoke, or a knocking sound, stop trying and call a checked mistri. On the road, tap Emergency to see the nearest one.

Still stuck? A checked bike mistri can help.
